Day 3 Up and Over

Last morning at Bunree. Another glorious morning – and that view! We’re afraid that Scotland may have peaked too early and we won’t find a place like this again. Anyway. We’re off.

It looks good from whatever angle

First stop Fort William for petrol and then to meet Mhairi and Peter at their lovely house. More fabulous views while munching on Mhairi’s spice cake. We walked to see an iconic boat wrecked on the shore of the loch to find a big group of Dutch photographers earnestly taking pictures from all angles. We did too but not so earnestly.

Then for the main event – the drive over Bealach na Bà. An exhilarating, exciting and frankly terrifying drive on a single track road, with hairpin bends, precarious passing places and steep climbs and descents. Natalie drove it like a pro – fuelled by jelly babies. I whimpered quietly, holding the camera and praying. What a blast!! (There is a video of this but it won’t upload on the dodgy WiFi at campsite so I’ll upload at some point!)

Finally we arrived at The Street (population 60) on the Applecross peninsular, our home for the next two nights. Not quite the views of Bunree as yet but this tiny place has a fabulous pub with equally renowned seafood restaurant. Beer tonight, food tomorrow.

Well deserved pint for the driver
