The forecast had been for it to be bad overnight and it certainly was. We woke to 50+mph winds and lots of rain. It was hard to believe we had been in shorts and tee shirts the day before. Ernie is not a fan of having his jacket on, and even less of a fan of walking in a storm. ‘Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’ said Noel Coward. ‘Mad dog owners go out in a Scottish storm’ said me. A couple of fellow dog walkers and I exchanged sympathetic words. The one tent on the campsite was still in place, I’m not sure how fun their night would have been. We had been sending them positive vibes from the warmth of our van.
We got the van ready for departure. Fortunately we did not have to go back over the notorious Bealach na Bà as today we were on the allegedly easier coastal route. Single track with passing places. The views would have been stunning if (a) it was not misty and tipping it down (b) I was not keeping my eyes firmly on the road. As we approached a hill a car stopped in a passing place and urged us to open our window. Not the best place for a chat …. It wasn’t a chat that he wanted, it was to warn us what was around the next corner….

After taking over an hour to do 24 miles we breathed a sigh of relief as we reached what we thought were better roads, they would have been had there not been water falls flooding across them. Wet, wet, wet! Eventually we made it to Kinlochewe!
We had a rest and food in the van before we set off to explore the local nature reserve. It was damp but beautiful, we can’t wait to explore properly tomorrow.

We met one of the locals for a chat.

Then we checked out the local pub. Nice to chat to a German woman who had travelled from Skye today. It was a lovely spot to people watch and chat.

After a tasty couple of drinks we headed back to the site with blue sky above us.

We look forward to exploring the walks in the nature reserve tomorrow
