After a lovely couple of days in Kinlochewe we set off on the next leg of our trip. The majority of the the journey was straightforward. We resisted stopping at The Midge Bite cafe. As we approached Ullapool there was a lot of traffic coming in the opposite direction, we guessed a ferry had just arrived in port. The last 6 miles of the journey was on single track road through the most wonderful landscape. Not sure how to describe it, Pat suggested lunar but with vegetation. On arriving at the wonderful Clachtoll Beach Camspite we learnt we had driven through some of the oldest rocks in the world. The rock is called gneiss and it is an area of great geological interest. We were lucky enough to get a pitch with a great view of the sea. Apparently on a clear day you can see Skye, we will take the campsite owner’s word for that.

We had a walk up to the social centre of Clachtoll to get a scone for lunch.

We had a little wander to the beach before lunch. Ernie was running around like a looney. As I started to video him I noticed him approaching a dead bird to roll on…. This is the video …
After a spot of lunch and a look at the view we set off on a walk. It was a bit windy!

As we walked along the coast we met a man on a sit on lawn mower who was mowing the mini golf course in his back garden. We chatted to him for ages. Apparently he is a famous polar explorer/guide called Bill Smith and was so interesting. After a long chat we continued on our walk.

The coast line is rugged and in today’s wind it was very wild. Just gorgeous!

It is such a lovely, quirky little spot… a random selection of photos…

Strangely enough in such a remote area there is not a pub to have a wander to for a beer, however there is a lovely fire pit area on the campsite that we may wander up to later.
