After a good night sleep without any nightmares about what van been blown over the cliff (or as a friend suggested … a cliffhanger) we woke to another beautiful rainbow.

Ernie and I decided it would be a good morning to search for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It wasn’t good news I’m afraid

We decided we would be proper tourists for the morning and set off quite early to go to John O’Groats. It was a short drive along the coast and at the time of day we went it was lovely. We can imagine it would get very very busy at certain times of day. We had to do the obligatory photo at the sign though Ernie was not impressed

We had a nice wander along the shore

We found a gorgeous cafe, which was dog friendly and sold lovely cakes and scones. Pat said the cheese scone has made it in to her all time top 5. Ernie liked it a lot too.

To top it all off there was a brewery…..

We headed back from John O’Groats and had a walk in the community forest with Ernie as we were leaving him for a while this afternoon. We got our glad rags (clean socks) on and headed up the road to the Dunnet Bay distillery. We nearly managed to avoid the rain.

We were booked onto the distillery tour. The distillery produces vodka and gin. We had a lovely welcome gin and tonic in a very nice room that was set up for the tasting later.

We learnt about botanicals and other things. It was interesting to hear about the change in legislation that has lead to the creation of so many local distilleries. We were shown where the magic happens.

Many years ago when I was young(er) a friend once bet me a fiver that I couldn’t finish his bottle of vodka, in my drunken state it seem like a win win situation. Free drink and a fiver …. The next morning told a different story and to this day I have hardly had any vodka. However the vodka produced here was stunning. We made a few purchases in the shop and I struggled under the weight of the the rucksack on the walk back to the campsite.

We got back and took Ernie down to the beach for a quick run around. A nana nap beckons 😊
